Homeowner narrowly escapes fire in Downsville

DOWNSVILLE - A residence and a pet were lost to an early-morning structure fire at 68 Foote Road, Downsville, Monday, Feb. 5, Delaware County Emergency Services Director Steve Hood said. 

Downsville, Cooks Falls, East Branch, and Walton Fire Departments responded to the call made by the homeowner at approximately 6:45 a.m., Hood said, when the homeowner was awakened by smoke detectors. 

“The homeowner narrowly escaped,” Hood said, and sustained minor burns to his back. The homeowner was treated at UHS Delaware Valley Hospital in Walton, Hood said.

The scene was cleared at approximately 12 p.m. when all departments were back in service, Hood said. 

The cause of the fire is undetermined and under investigation, Hood said, but the home is a total loss.
