There will be a book fair at the Townsend Elementary School today - Thursday, Sept. 21 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. and again at the annual open house from 5:30-7 p.m. It will also be open Friday, Sept. 22 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.

Also, Friday is Orange and Black Day at Townsend School. The middle and high schools have enjoyed a spirit week this week with different themes. Picture days are Sept. 21 for middle school, Sept. 22 for high school, and Oct. 4 for UPK- second grade, Oct. 5 for grades three through five.

The annual Walton’s Walk for Hunger will take place on Sunday, Sept. 24 starting at Veterans Plaza on Delaware Street. Bring your pledge envelopes - registration begins at 2 and the walk begins at 3; two courses, entertainment and food to purchase. Collection canisters are in several Walton businesses too. Come out to the Northfield Community Church for their all you can eat pancake breakfast Saturday, Sept. 23 from 8-11 a.m. at the church, 5116 Co. Rt. 23. The menu is pancakes, sausage, eggs, hash browns, juice and coffee and it’s a free will donation. Proceeds benefit Operation Christmas Child.

The Walton Market on the Green Fall Festival finale Friday, Sept. 29 from 4-9 p.m. Live music by Whitehall, food, craft vendors, raffle baskets, free crafts and more. If you would like a spot at this event, contact Amanda Conkling at waltonmarketonthegreen@gmail.com

The third annual UTV Parade/Poker Run for the Trout Creek Fire Department will be Sunday, Sept. 24. The TCFD will be celebrating its 60 year anniversary (1963-2023). The Poker run is $10 per person, the parade is free. Chicken barbecue, hamburger and hot dogs all day. Awards for categories like Furthest Traveled, Dirtiest UTV, Best Decorated and Oldest Driver. Organizers are seeking area fire departments to enter a fire dept UTV for a special “Best Appearing Fire Department” award -and bring more members. There will be 3-4 raffles throughout the day for guns and other prizes; also a garden tractor pull and a chance for the UTVs to show their pulling power. Come, enjoy the day, and support the fire department volunteers.

The Walton Historical Society is excited to host the first annual Walton Fall Market at the fairgrounds Saturday, Oct. 7, starting at 10 am. There will be a $2 admission cost, and vendors for everyone to enjoy. There will also be activities for kids, entertainment, and more. If you are interested in being a Vendor that day you must reserve and pay for a spot in advance, by e-mailing the Historical Society at waltonhistoricalsociety@outlook.com or waltonfallmarket@gmail.com for an application or stop at the Historical Society, 9 Townsend Street, to pick one up. Vendor spots are $20 for a 10’ x 15’ space.

Amanda Mills is hosting her annual Halloween costume swap at the Yarn Over parking lot, 22 North Street, Monday, Oct. 9 from 12-3 p.m. Donate your old costumes or grab a used one. Amanda also accepts donations of fabric and thread to repair and alter costumes for reuse. Costumes are available for any donations as you can afford. Amanda has done this for seven years to help the community.

The second annual Trunk or Treat at the Del Co Fairgrounds will take place Saturday, Oct 21 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. The Black Pearl Chalkboard Bus will also be on site. Contact Melissa Steinbrecher to participate by decorating a trunk. All are welcome to come trick or treating and see all the great trunks.

The next week, the Trout Creek Trunk or Treat event will take place Saturday, Oct. 28 at the Trout Creek Town Hall parking lot. New this year - a haunted house (but not too spooky for the littles) at the Schoolhouse in Trout Creek, just a short walk from the town hall where the trunk or treat takes place, both from 4 - 6 p.m. Sponsored by the Trout Creek Committee, all are welcome to come and decorate a trunk. If you do, arrive by 3:30 for set up.

The Walton Warriors Football Moms are sponsoring a fundraiser raffle for a 58” Smart TV. Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20. Available from any team member - winner will be announced at halftime Sept. 30 during the Walton vs Tioga home game.

Clayton “Junie” Stanton is again holding his community friends and family get together Saturday, Sept. 30 at the New Hope Community Church pavilion. All are invited. If you can, bring a dish to pass (not required). Junie will supply the hamburgers and hot dogs; meal starts at 2 p.m. Randy Hulse will supply the live music starting at 4.

Junie started this a couple years ago so families and friends take time to get together to socialize and have some fun without it being a sorrowful event. Great reminder to live each day to the fullest. Come if you can.

The Great Give Back Project at the Ogden Library is happening through October. It is a community service project to help knit or crochet winter hats using 50 skeins of yarn that were donated to the library. The yarn is to be used to make hats for infants to 8 year olds. The library is partnering with the Walton Toy Bank to distribute them. There are simple patterns available at the library or use your own, but stop in to pick up the yarn for the project. Return finished hats to the library by Nov. 1.

Also at Ogden, “Movies by Moonlight” this week - “Soul,” on the new giant inflatable screen Saturday, Sept. 23 at 7:30 p.m. Bring a blanket or lawn chair to the Gardiner Place lawn. Free popcorn compliments of the Walton Theatre, and hot cocoa will be offered. If it rains the movie will be canceled. The last one is Sept. 30, showing “Lightyear.” Watch the library’s website and Facebook page for up-to-date information.

The Thanksgiving dinner committee will be organizing the Christmas dinner too. The dinners will be in person - come in, sit down and be served Thanksgiving Day, Thursday Nov. 23 tentatively at the Walton Fire Hall, and also Christmas, Monday, Dec. 25. Donate by sending a check to Wayne Bank, c/o Tim Gutliph, 131-133 Delaware Street, Walton, NY 13856. In the memo specify “Community dinners.” This is an on-going project, so give when and if you can. Many hands make light work, so volunteer if you can or donate if you’re able. Volunteers are needed for kitchen help, servers, set-up, clean-up. The dinners are for everyone in the community - no income guidelines, just to come together as a community to celebrate. There is a meeting Tuesday, Sept. 26, at 7:30 p.m. at TA’S Restaurant; anyone wanting to volunteer is invited to attend.

Packin’ Heat will host a cornhole tournament Saturday, Oct. 21, 1-9 p.m., to benefit the Miss Rodeo New York Scholarship Foundation. The foundation promotes the sport of rodeo and the contributions of New York agriculture in our lives. There will be 50/50 and basket raffles, a live DJ, and $10 all you can eat tacos. Team registration is $20; to pre-register by contacting Misty Spratley at 607-353-9943 - Venmo and PayPal accepted. Day of event, registration is $30 per team.

Walton Booster Club is selling 500 raffle tickets only - prizes are three guns and the fifth is a trail cam. Money raised will be used for equipment and repairs to the clubhouse. Tickets are $10 and can be obtained from Ron Thompson at the field, Tuesday through Thursday 5:30-7 p.m. Winner will be drawn at the last home game in October.

The Mustard Seed Thrift Shop in the United Presbyterian Church will hold a fabric sale on Saturday, Sept. 23 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. They also have a large quantity of quality used furniture.
