Art in the Catskills: Stagecoach Run Festival Returns for 29th Year

Posted

FRANKLIN — One of the Catskills’ most anticipated summer events, the Stagecoach Run Art Festival, will return for its 29th year on Saturday and Sunday, July 5 and 6. The self-guided tour spans venues across the neighboring hamlets of Franklin and Treadwell, where more than 50 artists working in painting, sculpture, ceramics and mixed media will open their doors to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Founded in 1996, the festival was born from the region’s thriving creative community and has grown into a hallmark of Delaware County’s cultural calendar. The event’s name is a nod to the historic Catskill Turnpike—established in 1804—which brought travelers westward along what is now Route 357. Stone signposts from the turnpike era still mark Main Street in Franklin.

Today, the village is a magnet for artists, designers and antique enthusiasts. It is home to Kabinett & Kammer, the eclectic shop run by author and design artist Sean Scherer; LAVA Atelier, the interiors boutique curated by Meg Lavalette; and Blue Farm Antiques and Letterpress Printing. Fashion designer Gary Graham’s studio, GaryGraham422, welcomes visitors by appointment.

The Stagecoach Run allows visitors to experience the area’s rural charm while exploring artist studios and galleries at their own pace. Maps will be available at various locations and at each participating venue. Artists will be present to speak with guests, and many works will be available for purchase.

Dining options range from breakfast and lunch at local eateries. Food trucks and community-run grills will also be stationed throughout the festival.

Franklin and Treadwell are situated between Delhi and Oneonta, approximately 150 miles northwest of New York City. The event is free and open to the public.
