Charles F. Koehler, 82, of Trout Creek passed away Friday, April 7, 2023, at St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center in Syracuse, following a long illness. Charlie was born Sept. 22, 1940 in Brooklyn, the son of the late George and Sarah (Meehan) Koehler. He was a graduate of New York School of Printing and later attended Westchester Community College. 

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Charlie was a member of the Trout Creek Community Church, American Legion Guntown Post 1554, and Trout Creek Fire Department where he served as Captain of the Fire Police. He also served as Trout Creek Fire Commissioner and sat on the Town of Tompkins Planning Board. 

Charlie enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, tinkering with cuckoo clocks, sitting outside watching his birds at the feeders and enjoying the great outdoors. Charlie loved learning about and discussing all things history. 

In life, one of Charlie’s goals was to become an organ donor. With his passing he became one. 

Charlie is survived by his brother, George Koehler of Massachusetts, life partner Mary Lou, stepchildren Julianne Caldarulo of Johnson City, Thomas (Arissa) Caldarulo of Broadalbin, children Lynda Makim of New Jersey; Lisa Miley of New Jersey; Charles Koehler of Brooklyn, David Koehler of Brooklyn, grandchildren Charles, Caroline, James and David, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

Family and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Charlie Saturday, April 22, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the Trout Creek Community Church, 8558 county Route 27, Trout Creek, where services will be held at noon with Pastor Don Crossman officiating. 

 Memorial contributions in Charlie’s memory may be made to Trout Creek Volunteer Fire Department, 8695 county Highway 27, Trout Creek, NY 13847, Trout Creek Community Church, PO Box 47, Sidney Center, NY 13839, or Guntown Post 1554, 8460 county Route 27, Sidney Center, NY 13839.
