Eva S. Liddle

Eva S. Liddle, 99, of Delhi, passed away early Sunday morning at Delhi Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. 

Born on Jan. 25, 1924 in Halcottsville, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Madeline (Akerley) Sanford. 

Eva grew up in South Kortright, where she was in the Hospitality Club, was active in 4-H, and loved to play the accordion, which she played at many events. Eva was Salutatorian of the Class of 1941. She was married to Herbert A. Liddle on April 2, 1943, in South Kortright, a union that lasted until his passing on April 23, 2001.

She was a secretary and bookkeeper, working for law offices in Delhi and her husband’s trucking company. She also worked for the former Dellwood Foods and Deltown Chemurgic in Fraser until her retirement in 1986.  

Following her retirement, she and Herb enjoyed spending winters in Arcadia, Fla., and traveling on cruises and trips with family and friends. Eva also enjoyed reading, working on her family genealogy, and preserving and documenting many of the family heirlooms. 

She was active in the United Ministry of Delhi, Delhi Business and Professional Women’s Club, the Donald W. Gleason, Unit 190 American Legion Auxiliary, the Delaware County Historical Association, and the Delhi Women’s Club. 

Eva is survived by her children Timothy (Nanette) Liddle of Harpersville and Kerry D. (Harry) Gracey of Delhi; two grandchildren, Madeline and Tara Liddle; sister Helen Younts of Lowville, and several nieces and nephews. 

Calling hours will be held 4-7 p.m. Thursday, June 15 at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, 134 Main Street, Delhi. A service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 16 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery, Delhi. 

Eva’s family would like to express a special thank you to the staff at Delhi Rehabilitation and Nursing Center and John Ladany and his service dog Laddie and Brent Truitt and his service dog Ella for the comfort they provided to Eva during her stay.
