Jay E. Wright, 80, passed away peacefully Dec. 28, 2022, at O’Connor Hospital in Delhi.

Jay was born to John Edmund Wright and Florence Eadie at the old Delhi Hospital Oct. 15, 1942.

He graduated from Downsville Central School. Following high school Jay served in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1966 with time spent in Okinawa, Japan. When he completed his service, he returned home to DeLancey, where he married Elsie Brown. They were married for 55 years and had four sons that they raised in Andes. Jay worked for NYSDOT for 23 years, most of that time based out of the Delhi shop. He loved to hunt and do various outdoor activities including riding snowmobiles, target shooting, making maple syrup, raising beef and pigs, cutting logs and firewood, rebuilding old tractors, snowmobiles and equipment, and was a lifelong member and contributor to the Terry Clove Community Hall, forever playing with all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jay was predeceased by his parents and siblings, Jane, John, George and Jim Wright. 

He is survived by his wife Elsie, his son Jay Wright and his family (Kayla, Elijah, Ethan, Evander, and Eian), Tim Wright and his family (Katrina, John and Devin), Joe Wright and his family (Dallis, Kaitlyn, Hunter, Dakota and Natalie), Tom Wright and his family (Judy, Caitlin, Candace, Mahiya, Makenna and Gavin) and great-grandchildren.

Jay is also survived by siblings Gerald Wright, June Ruff (Mel Ruff), Kathy Drew (Mike Drew), and Bill Wright (Caroline Conklin) as well as many nieces and nephews.

A service of remembrance will be held Jan. 8 from 4 to 7 p.m. at MacArthur Funeral Home, 134 Main Street in Delhi.

Those who wish to donate in lieu of flowers may do so to the East Terry Clove Community Hall, Treasurer Stephanie Conklin, 3522 West Terry Clove Road, DeLancey, NY 13752. You may also choose to plant a tree in his honor as Jay had planted many trees in his lifetime and would be honored by this as well.
