Margaret “Peg” Budine

Posted

Our dear mother, Margaret Ellen Budine, “Peg,” sadly passed away on July 14, 2022, at the age of 75 with her family at her side.

She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who was always there when we needed her. She also had many friends and was a well-loved member of the community in Franklin where she lived.

Peg was born to John and Ruth (Moody) Shaver, on Aug. 15, 1946 in Delhi. Her parents have sadly predeceased her.

Peg had three wonderful children, Renee Lynn, who also predeceased her as a child, Ronald (Donna) Budine of Georgia, and Robin Brown of Unadilla. She is also survived by her sister, Joan (Joe) Frazier of Tennessee, and brother, John (Liz) Shaver of Unadilla; several grandchildren, Jared (Tiffany) Hunt of Unadilla, Brittani Budine of Georgia, Dustin Budine of Georgia, and Dylan Brown of Unadilla; and four great-grandchildren Chloee and Blake of Unadilla, and Gracelynn and Madison of Georgia.

Peg graduated from Walton Central School in 1964 before moving to Franklin and starting a family. Peg worked part time at Franklin Central School while her children were young. Later, she worked for Delaware County in the department of social services before her retirement in 2012. During her career she was also a volunteer firefighter and emergency medical technician. Even as she grew older, she always gave to her community by teaching CPR and going on calls, giving up countless hours of sleep with no reservations. This made her happy to be helping.

As Peg’s family grew older and bigger, she helped with childcare by watching her great-grandkids. When she wasn’t watching her great-grandkids, you could find her in town heckling someone whether over coffee or at the fire hall trying to keep the boys (kids) in line. When Peg was home, she was taking care of fur babies or all her kittens. There wasn’t a cat Peg wouldn’t help. Peg was known to many and loved by most.

Friends are invited to greet the family Friday, July 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Franklin Fire Department, 351 Main Street, Franklin. A memorial service will take place Saturday, July 23, at 11 a.m., also at the fire department. Burial will follow in Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin.

All are welcome to gather at the firehouse in Franklin after burial for refreshments and stories of Peg.

In lieu of flowers, make donations to the Franklin Fire Department or Emergency Squad in Peg’s honor.

Arrangements are by the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, Franklin.
