Meredith Historical Society will host a program called “Bert Santora’s Memories of Growing Up in Houghtaling Hollow in the 1920s,” presented by William Simons and Neil Riddell at 7 p.m. Aug. 8 at the former Charlotte Valley Presbyterian Church, 10044 Elk Creek Road, East Meredith, the home of the historical society.

Santora was born in Patterson, New Jersey in 1912 and moved with his family to a farm on Houghtaling Hollow Road in the town of Meredith in 1917 where he attended the District 17 School and the A. L. Kellogg School in Treadwell, graduating in 1931.

In 1999, he wrote about what life was like on Houghtaling Hollow during the 1920s. It was a time when the farmers there formed a close-knit, semi-isolated community in which they worked and played together almost exclusively. Admission is free and refreshments will be served.
