Virginia R. “Ginger” Wakeman of Roscoe, a retired teacher’s aide and a lifelong area resident, died Friday, June 21, 2024 at her home surrounded by her devoted family. She was 96.

The daughter of the late Howard and Annabelle Finnegan Lake, she was born April 11, 1928 in Cadosia.

Ginger had worked for the New York City Board of Water Supply for many years as a secretary before her career as a teachers’ aide at the Roscoe Central School.  She was a member of the United Church of Roscoe.

Survivors include her daughter Sandra L. Fletcher and her husband Barry of Roscoe, son Scott R. Wakeman and his wife Sandra of Kemmerer, Wyoming; two sisters, Sharon Keene of Cooks Falls, and Carol Gerow of Cary, North Carolina; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Russell G. Wakeman, whom she married on April 22, 1950; three brothers and five sisters.

Visitation will be Sunday, June 30, from 1-3 p.m. in the Harris Funeral Home Railroad Ave., Roscoe.

Funeral services will be Sunday, June 30, at 3 in the funeral home. Lay Pastor Shelley Eggleton will officiate.

Dignified cremation will be provided by Harris Crematorium, LLC.

Burial will be Monday, July 1, at 10 a.m. in the Riverview Cemetery, Roscoe.
