It’s time to celebrate and support the homeless cats and dogs at Heart of the Catskills Humane Society at the 20th annual Woofs and Wags Dog Walk. It will be held in person on the shelter grounds, 46610 State Highway 10, Delhi, Saturday, Sept. 10.

This year’s theme is “Taco ‘Bout Dog...and Cats!”

Visit www.heartofthecatskills.org to download a pledge form.

Registration starts at 11:30 a.m. with the welcome at noon; the walk will start shortly thereafter. Those who collect $100 or more in pledges will receive a free dog walk t-shirt and for those who do not collect pledges, a free-will donation can be given upon entry to the event. The event ends at 2 p.m.

As always, there will be a costume contest for human and dog, so dress in your festive colorful best. Grab some tasty Mexican themed treats at the Cantina Café and some sweet endings to your meal at a bake sale. Festive tunes will flow all day from DJ Chet Delameter, and guests can visit our fabulous felines in the fiesta feline tent or visit the furs a flying dog grooming tent.

Enjoy various demonstrations and contests as the day unfolds, including the taco trot obstacle course contest, pin the tail on the doggie contest, and some short talks and demos to taco ‘bout Guiding Eyes for the Blind and K-9 police dogs and hear from some pet therapy partners about what it takes to train a therapy dog. There will also be some folks talking about cat enrichment with interactive toys for your feline.

Dogs attending the event must be up to date on vaccines and on-leash at all times - have your dogs wear a current rabies tag. ID tags strongly recommended. Water and treats provided. Do not bring a female dog in heat and be responsible regarding your pet’s behavior around other dogs and people, and pick up after your dog. Poop bags will be provided, and any poop deposited at the poop raffle receptacle will earn a raffle ticket for a chance to win the “poop raffle” prize. Prizes will also be awarded to the contest winners and to the top three pledge raisers.

Proceeds go to care for the animals cared for daily. For more information visit www.heartofthecatskills.org, call 607-746-3080, or email info@heartofthecatskills.org. Donations can be made online or mailed to HCHS P.O. Box 88, Delhi, NY 13753.
