Adirondack Club Invites Hikers to Explore Region This Summer

ONEONTA - For hikers looking to explore forests, waterfalls and lesser-known natural areas across the region, the Susquehanna Chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club has released a full schedule of summer outings, including weekly hikes and a growing series of more challenging weekend treks.

The chapter’s July calendar features a mix of leisurely weekday walks and longer Saturday excursions designed to appeal to hikers of varying abilities.

Among the destinations planned this month are Emmonds Bog in Oneonta on July 7, Whaupaunaucau State Forest in Norwich on July 14, Table Rocks at Hartwick College on July 21 and New Island in Oneonta on July 28.

The chapter’s monthly gathering will be held July 15 at Fortin Park in Oneonta and will include a potluck dinner followed by an easy walk through the park.

For hikers seeking a greater challenge, the club’s Saturday “All-Day Hike Series” continues July 18 with a trip to Russell Brook Falls and the Trout Pond Loop near Roscoe.

The expanded series builds on a successful inaugural season in 2025, when more than 80 participants took part in seven guided hikes exploring destinations throughout the region. Organizers said the program was created to offer longer routes, greater elevation gains and opportunities to discover new terrain. The positive response prompted the chapter to increase the schedule to 10 all-day hikes in 2026.

Most Tuesday outings are designed to be relatively easy, covering short distances over flat or rolling terrain at a relaxed pace. Participants are expected to bring appropriate clothing, gear and sufficient water and should be physically prepared for the activity selected.

The Susquehanna Chapter also hosts monthly meetings on the third Wednesday of each month. During the summer, gatherings are held at local parks, while fall, winter and spring meetings take place at Elm Park United Methodist Church in Oneonta. Meetings are open to both members and non-members.

Organizers encourage carpooling to reduce travel-related emissions and welcome anyone interested in hiking, outdoor recreation or learning more about the club.

Additional information, including hike descriptions and registration details, is available at susqadk.org or by calling the chapter’s hike line at 607-431-8010.
