A small circle of Upstate New York artists is presenting an exhibition titled “Women Under the Influence,” which opens at ArtUp gallery, 746 Main St., Binnekill Square, Margaretville, NY, 12455 on Friday June 5 and runs through Sunday June 28. A reception will take place Friday June 5 from 4 to 7 p.m.; a panel discussion is scheduled for Sunday June 14 from 2 to 4 p.m. The gallery is open to the public Friday through Sunday from 12 to 4 p.m.

In the winter of 2025, a small group of Catskill-based artists formed a monthly discussion group to talk about artists and their genres they found interesting and/or inspiring. Over time the group grew to ten members: Beth Caspar, Cena Pohl Crane, Robin Factor, Gail Freund, Patrice Lorenz, Amy Masters, Mary McFerran, Sheila McManus, GG Stankiewicz, and Patricia Wadsley. Each member would host a gathering, providing materials (articles, videos, etc.) about her choice and then lead a discussion among the group. This led to a decision to mount a group show of members’ work that would be uniquely theirs but also reflect something of the influences of other artists. In this way, the exhibition would not only introduce viewers and members of the community to the circle’s work but also perhaps give them new insights into genres they might not be familiar with.

The group applied for and was awarded a Delaware County Arts Grant, so this project is made possible with funds from the Delaware County Arts Grant, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with support of the office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered in Delaware County by the Roxbury Arts Group.
