SIDNEY - The Sidney Memorial Public Library will open a new exhibition on Saturday, April 4, featuring the work of Christopher Lloyd Wright, an Afton-based painter known for his murals and portrait work across the region.
An opening reception is scheduled from 1 to 3:30 p.m., with light refreshments and a live performance by the band “Uncleshake.” The exhibition, which will remain on view through April 28, brings together paintings created over the past seven years, blending observed scenes with imagined ones.
Wright, who has spent more than two decades producing commissioned portraits and original work, is widely recognized for public murals in Afton and Bainbridge. His recent paintings explore the interplay of memory and invention, often merging real-life subjects with imagined settings.
In addition to the exhibition, the library system is expanding its programming for younger readers. The Masonville Branch Library plans to launch a children’s reading series in April built around the alphabet, with sessions held Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 4 to 5 p.m. The program will focus on one letter each week, guiding elementary-age participants through a structured, cumulative reading experience.
Adult programming will continue with the library’s book club meeting on April 14 at 11:30 a.m., where participants will discuss The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid. Copies are available at the circulation desk.
