Headwaters Arts Center will host a hands-on mixed media assemblage workshop on Saturday, July 12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., led by Upstate New York artist Jamie Banes. The session will introduce participants to the art of three-dimensional composition using found objects and salvaged materials from Banes’s personal collection.
The workshop, open to all skill levels, will explore both the technical and conceptual aspects of assemblage. Participants will learn techniques in construction, adhesive use, and composition while exploring formal elements such as scale, rhythm, texture, and color. A central theme of the class will be transforming everyday materials into objects imbued with personal or symbolic meaning.
Known for sculptural works that echo dystopian cityscapes and imagined architecture, Banes crafts assemblages that balance the familiar with the uncanny.
The cost of the workshop ranges from $15 to $35 through tiered equity pricing. Fine motor skills and the use of adhesives and solvents are required; accommodations may be arranged by contacting the center in advance.
Headwaters Arts Center is located at 66 Main Street in Stamford. Registration and more information are available at roxburyartsgroup.org or by emailing headwaters@roxburyartsgroup.org
