ROXBURY - The Roxbury Library is offering a slate of public programs designed to stretch the body, challenge the mind, and connect the community. From guided yoga sessions to literary discussions and digital ancestry tools, the Main Street institution continues to serve as a hub for learning and wellness.

Chair Yoga, led by instructors from Twisted Sister Yoga, remains a weekly fixture on Thursday afternoons at 3:30 p.m. (August 7, 14, 21, and 28). The gentle 45-minute sessions are open to all, with a suggested donation of $10.

On Wednesday, August 6, at 2:00 p.m., the library will host Brian Lee of the Four County Library System for an interactive workshop on genealogical research. Lee will demonstrate how to navigate platforms like Ancestry Library Edition, FamilySearch, NYS Historic Newspapers, and HathiTrust to uncover family histories from home or the library. The event is free and open to the public.

Later in the month, on Monday, August 18, at 4:30 p.m., Roxbury Central School Superintendent Stacy Ward and school librarian Margaret Tucker will lead a community book discussion on Jonathan Haidt’s The Anxious Generation. The book, which explores the effects of social media and smartphone use on children and adolescents, has sparked national debate. The event is part of the library’s Summer Read initiative and is free and open to all.

Finally, on Friday, August 29, poet and educator Sharon Israel will lead a writing workshop titled “Write Through the Amherst Method,” hosted in collaboration with Writers in the Mountains. The session emphasizes supportive peer feedback and creative exploration. Pre-registration is required at www.writersinthemountains.org, with a suggested participation fee of $12.
