EAST MEREDITH - The West Kortright Centre will welcome Tunisian musician Nour Harkati on Friday, May 29, for an evening of desert blues shaped equally by North African tradition and New York City energy.
Now based in New York, Harkati blends spiritual Gnawa rhythms, trance-infused desert blues and contemporary urban influences into a sound built around the guembri, layered percussion, electronic textures and modern songwriting. The result is both meditative and propulsive, rooted in centuries-old musical traditions while unmistakably contemporary.
His latest album, Moulena, released in December 2024 and premiered globally on KEXP, draws heavily from his Tunisian roots and the experience of migration and distance from home. Over the past eight years, Harkati has appeared at major international festivals and venues including GlobalFEST, Celebrate Brooklyn! and Habibi Festival, and is scheduled for a month-long residency at Pioneer Works.
The concert begins indoors with general admission seating. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Wood-fired pizza and drinks available at the concession stand.
Tickets are $18, with discounts available for members and children 12 and under. More information is available at West Kortright Centre at westkc.org or by calling 607-278-5454.
