The 52nd anniversary of Title IX prohibiting sex-based discrimination in education - a group of female ballplayers ranging in age from 16 to 47 years old and within a three-hour radius traveled to Fleischmanns for their first 19th century baseball match Sunday, June 23. The event was hosted by the Mountain Athletic Club with special guests including team captain and former Topps Female Athlete of the Week, Morristown, New Jersey native Sabrina Robinson, acclaimed historian Leslie Heaphy (president of the Internationall Womens Baseball Center and author of The Negro Leagues 1869-1960), documentary filmmaker Mark Durand,(ESPN Classic, Mel Allen’s This Week in Baseball, “Her Game is Hardball”), and Paula Weaver of K&P Weaver, custom tailor of countless uniforms for vintage ballplayers as well as for the AAGPBL uniforms worn in the film “A League of Their Own.”
