MARGARETVILLE - Five well-known professional musicians including Adam Ippolito, Loren Daniels, Garth Kravits, Andy Cahill and Justin Kolb will take the stage together next week to play a benefit concert for the Margaretville Central School Music Department.
The show, called “Fortissimo, a celebration of music and music makers” will take place Thursday, June 13 in the MCS auditorium at 7 p.m. The fundraising evening will begin with a gala reception and silent auction at 5:30 p.m. in one of the school’s choir rooms. Students in formal attire will pass the catered hors d’oeuvres at the reception and serve non-alcoholic beverages. Musicians and community members will have the opportunity to interact and to learn more about the music program and its instructors.
The evening will also feature performances by several of the school’s most talented music students as they showcase work they have mastered throughout the school year. Performances of the professionals will be alternated with those of the students and will feature both vocal and instrumental selections.
Among the students performing will be Olivia Wells, LilliAnn Van Benschoten, Grace Hull, Amelia Marks, Julia Balcom Salazar, Stella Sines, and Alani Mendez. The MCS Varsity Chorus will also perform. Music teachers Jen Sobas and Jenna Tucker will present 2023-24 music student awards and a grand finale will feature the student musicians joining the pros on stage.
Fundraising activities are intended to provide additional opportunities for students to perform and to travel and see professional performances. Fundraising will also help the department increase the number of students in the elective programs, improve the selection of instruments and technology available for student use, and purchase music, performance clothing and uniforms.
Advance reservations for the reception are a must so caterers know how much food to prepare. For information and reservations, call or text 845-324-2770 or email joanlb702022@gmail.com
