Bluegrass Band to Perform at Bainbridge Town Hall Theatre

The Hosmer Mountain Boys will bring their traditional bluegrass sound to the Bainbridge Town Hall Theatre Saturday, March 21, with a performance scheduled for 7 p.m.

The group, known for its 1950s-style approach to bluegrass, has gained recognition across the New England music scene in recent years. The band was voted “Fan Favorite” at the Podunk Bluegrass Festival in 2023 and has appeared on the WoodSongs Old-Time Radio Hour in Lexington, Kentucky. Members also traveled to England to perform at the Battlefield Bluegrass Festival.

The band, led by guitarist Keegan Day and banjo player Simon Brogie—who met in 2018 at Mando Camp North in Charlton, Massachusetts, at age 16—draws on the classic bluegrass of Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs. They are joined by fiddler Cathy Day, bassist Tom Bowman, and 16-year-old mandolinist Redmond “Red” Day, performing in Bill Monroe’s style.

Early arrivals can hear the theater’s 1933 Aeolian-Skinner residence organ, one of five built for upstate New York and the only intact, playable example.

Doors open at 6 p.m. for general admission, with refreshments including vintage popcorn, baked goods, coffee, and soft drinks. The 17th annual Area Student Art Showcase, featuring work from Bainbridge-Guilford, Afton, Sidney, Greene, Gilbertsville-Mount Upton, and Unatego students, will also open at 6 p.m. and remain accessible through intermission, free of charge. Concert tickets are available at the door or by calling 607-288-3882.
