BOVINA - Farming Bovina is excited to announce the return of Bovina Farm Day Sunday, Sept. 6, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Held annually on the Sunday of Labor Day Weekend, this beloved community event takes place on Crescent Valley Road in Bovina and celebrates the farms, farmers, and agricultural traditions that continue to shape the region.

This year’s event also marks the launch of a significant new initiative. Farming Bovina is introducing the Farm Enhancement Grant Program, a new funding opportunity designed to support local farmers with projects that improve the efficiency, productivity, and profitability of their operations. Made possible through funds raised by Bovina Farm Day, the grant program will award up to three grants ranging from $1,000 to $2,500 to qualifying farms located in and around the Town of Bovina.

Eligible projects may include improvements to farm infrastructure, livestock and crop expansion, pasture restoration, equipment purchases, value-added product development, and other initiatives that contribute to the long-term success of working farms.

Applications for the Farm Enhancement Grant Program will be accepted through Aug. 1. Priority will be given to farms located within the town of Bovina, though farms within approximately a ten-mile radius of Bovina Center are eligible to apply if they meet program requirements.

Farmers can learn more about the program at: https://www.farmingbovinany.org/farm-enhancement-grant

Applications can also be submitted online or you can find an application to download and mail at: https://www.farmingbovinany.org/feg-application

While the grant program represents an exciting new chapter for Farming Bovina, visitors can still expect the traditions that have made Bovina Farm Day a favorite Labor Day Weekend destination for families.

Guests of all ages will enjoy:

• Interacting with farm animals

• Hayrides and a giant haystack slide

• Antique engine demonstrations and vintage tractor displays

• Butter making and maple candy demonstrations

• Hands-on children’s activities, games, and treasure hunts

• Tours of the last working dairy farm in Bovina and the historic Maynard Schoolhouse

Visitors can also participate in the beloved best apple pie and apple dessert contests, as well as the popular scarecrow competition, where entrants create imaginative scarecrows using hay, stakes, and cross-arms provided by event organizers.

A large marketplace tent will feature local vendors offering meat, cheese, produce, baked goods, maple syrup, honey, flowers, and handmade goods. Food and refreshments will be available throughout the day from local vendors.

Admission is $5 per person; children under 12 admitted free.

Dogs are not permitted at the event to ensure the safety and comfort of the animals on the farm.

Bovina Farm Day is made possible through the support of Pure Catskills, an economic initiative of the Watershed Agricultural Council funded by the New York City Department of Environmental Protection, along with other generous sponsors.
