Catskill Mountain Club Unveils June Lineup of Peaks, Ponds and Long-Distance Treks

Posted

The Catskill Mountain Club will kick off June with a series of guided hikes across some of the region’s most rugged mountain terrain and scenic backcountry destinations.

The volunteer-led organization, now in its 22nd year, offers free hiking, paddling and biking outings throughout the Catskills while advocating for nonmotorized outdoor recreation opportunities.

The June schedule features routes ranging from lakeside walks to challenging climbs over several of the Catskills’ highest peaks.

The month begins June 3 with a trek from Colgate Lake to North-South Lake. On June 6, hikers will tackle Vly, Bearpen and Halcott mountains, followed by an ascent of Hunter Mountain via the Becker Hollow Trail on June 7.

Midmonth outings include a June 10 hike from North-South Lake through Mary’s Glen and North Point, continuing along the Long Path to Route 23A.

Among the most demanding excursions is the June 13 traverse of the eastern Devil’s Path, covering Indian Head, Twin, Sugarloaf and Plateau mountains. Often regarded as one of the Northeast’s most challenging hiking routes, the Devil’s Path draws experienced hikers from across the region.

The schedule concludes June 14 with a hike to Quick Lake, Hodge Pond and Frick Pond in the western Catskills.

All outings are free and led by club members. Additional details, meeting locations and registration information available at catskillmountainclub.org
