MEREDITH - At the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce’s annual awards ceremony held Oct. 16, local businesses and leaders were honored for their contributions to the community.
Award winners were presented with citations from Assembly Representative Chris Tague and Ciano Briga on behalf of Congressional Representative Marc Molinaro, in addition to New York Senate certificates of achievement and recognition from Senator Peter Oberacker representing New York’s 51st Senate District.
Local businesses were recognized for making a significant, positive impact in Delaware County and its economy.
The awards were given, Delaware County Chamber of Commerce President Ray Pucci said, not just in recognition of business success, but in, “Celebration of business and community working together toward a shared vision of our economy.”
Award recipients spanned the diversity of businesses. Some are still fledgling and others well established and include professional services, hospitality, retail, and manufacturing. “What they share, however, is a collaborative spirit,” Pucci continued.
Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals Earns ‘Business of the Year’
Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals’ Hobart plant, a key employer with 430 workers, was named Business of the Year. The plant, which manufactures pharmaceutical products, has steadily expanded since its 1966 founding as Graham Laboratories. The company was recognized for its commitment to safety, efficiency, and employee well-being, with plans to improve local child care, transportation, and housing.
Rising Stars Shine: New Business Awards
The Rising Star New Business Awards celebrated fresh entrepreneurial ventures, which are chamber members, across the region. The businesses opened within the past five years and through community partnerships, have positively influenced the region.
“Each are risk-takers, but confident and informed by optimism,” Pucci said.
Bakers Grimm, known for its baked goods and deli offerings, started as a family venture and quickly expanded to markets and wholesale distribution.
Bizzy Bees Learning Academy fosters a nurturing environment with Montessori and Waldorf-inspired childcare services.
Catskills Junction is a destination for shopping and local events.
Delhi Work Station offers a creative co-working space in the heart of Delhi.
Galloping Horse Graphics brings high-quality sign-making and graphics services to Hancock.
The Hobart Exchange combines retail with community activities in Hobart’s historic Book Village.
The Lost Bookshop curates a unique selection of books to guide readers through life’s transitions.
The Walton Diner delivers a classic diner experience, earning praise for its welcoming atmosphere.
Community Connector Awards
Raegan Reed, Delhi
Raegan Reed, owner of The Cardio Club in Delhi, was honored for her community leadership. Reed has led initiatives like the Delhi Christmas Fund, the Community Fit Day, and the Catskill Mountain Yoga Festival, contributing to the region’s civic and cultural life. Reed is a “catalyst for change by connecting people, setting new expectations, and creating opportunities,” Pucci said.
Delaware County Council of Mayors
The Delaware County Council of Mayors, formed to address shared challenges such as housing shortages and tax policies, received accolades for its collaborative approach. Spearheaded by Delhi Mayor Jeff Gearhart and Walton Mayor Ed Snow, the council has already influenced policy changes and improved state relations.
The group has presented an innovative model for municipalities to share a percentage of sales tax revenue generated in Delaware County, discovered new grant funding opportunities, built new relationships with state officials, and raised a warning about the condition of wastewater facilities throughout the region. “More importantly, these village officials are talking with each other, seeking previously untapped and often ignored resources, sharing ideas and innovation, and strengthening our communities. They are leaders,” Pucci said.
The awards celebrated the strength and diversity of Delaware County’s business community, highlighting those who are shaping the region’s future.
