Christmas Concert and Organ Recital in Hobart Dec. 20

Organist Eddie Zheng is returning to the Hobart Presbyterian Church on Friday, Dec. 20 for a recital and Christmas concert. The event, which begins at 6 p.m, will include solo works and familiar hymns and carols. Vocalist Fred Nelson will also perform.

Eddie Zheng, a New York City native, is a distinguished organist and current Artist Diploma student at Juilliard, studying under Paul Jacobs. Recognized as a “rising star” by the American Guild of Organists, he has performed globally across the U.S., Canada, France, and China. Zheng has earned top honors in prestigious competitions, including the 2024 Pierre de Manchicourt International Organ Competition in France, and received Juilliard’s Joseph W. Polisi Award in 2023 for artistry and community engagement.

Zheng serves as assistant organist at Saint Ignatius of Antioch Episcopal Church in New York, known for its Anglo-Catholic liturgy, and has held similar roles at several prominent churches. Dedicated to promoting organ music, he teaches more than 10 students of all ages, ensuring the art form’s future while continuing his impactful performances and educational outreach.

He will be playing the church’s M. P. Möller pipe organ, installed in 1914, restored in 1979 and currently in excellent form, and will provide occasional commentary and explanation.
