Community Foundation Doubles 2026 Spring Grants as Regional Need Deepens

136% Increase in February and April Cycles Reflects Deepening Community Need

The Community Foundation for South Central New York has sharply increased its spring grantmaking, distributing $790,116 to 99 nonprofits across a five-county region this year, up from $335,006 awarded to 55 organizations during the same period in 2025.

The 136% increase, approved by the foundation’s board, reflects both expanded donor support and rising demand among service providers, according to foundation officials.

The grants, awarded through February and April funding cycles, support a broad range of programs, including food security efforts, mental health services, youth arts initiatives, libraries, and basic-needs assistance such as hygiene pantries.

Foundation staff said nonprofit organizations are facing heightened pressure as costs rise and public funding sources contract, increasing reliance on private philanthropy to sustain core services.

Founded in 1997 and based in Binghamton, the foundation manages approximately $51 million in assets and has distributed more than $33 million in grants through over 160 funds. It serves organizations and donors across Broome, Chenango, Delaware, Otsego, and Tioga counties.

The next grant cycle is scheduled to open in July.
