Van Scott Nature Reserve Scavenger Hunt Saturday, Aug. 26, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Drop in between to pick up the scavenger hunt booklet from the office. If you can answer all of the questions in the booklet while you explore the Reserve, you will receive a small prize.
The Life of an Eastern Coyote Friday, Sept. 8, 5 p.m.- 6 p.m. How are they different from western coyotes? What is their primary diet? Do they always live in packs? Get all these questions answered and more; space is limited and prior registration is required. Event fee is $5 for conservancy members or $10 for non-members.
Mindful Family Yoga with Romping Radishes Saturday, Sept. 9 – 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Join Romping Radishes Yoga instructors from The Cooperage Project for a gentle outdoor yoga practice designed to heighten our awareness of our thoughts and surroundings. Open to families with children of all ages, we’ll enjoy some nature exploration, mindful and playful movement, and art-making inspired by our surroundings. The event will be held outdoors at the Van Scott Nature Reserve. Dress comfortably and bring something to sit on (blanket, yoga mat). No prior yoga experience is necessary. Registration fee of $10 per family. Children must be accompanied by an adult to attend the program.
Changing of the Leaves Saturday, Sept. 9, 2 - 4 p.m.: Fall is upon us! Learn how leaves change colors while identifying different types of trees along the trails for this guided walk. At the end of this program, we will make some eco-friendly nature leaf confetti! Space is limited and prior registration is required. Event fee is $5 for conservancy members, $10 for non-members.
Conservation Conversations *Virtual Event* Tuesday, Sept. 12, 5:15-6:15 p.m.: Join the Conservancy’s Land Protection Coordinators Trey Talley and Kaylan Hubbard for a virtual Zoom gathering to learn about Delaware Highlands Conservancy and how we can help you protect your land. What is a conservation easement and what property characteristics do we look for? What are the steps and costs associated with placing a conservation easement on your property? Are there any financial benefits for the landowner? Following a brief presentation, you will be invited to join the conversation and get your questions answered.
Meadow Party Sunday, Sept, 17, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.: For this special free community event, we invite you to enjoy guided trail walks, crafts, and fun educational programs for all ages. Food will be available for purchase, or bring your own picnic to enjoy (bring a blanket or camp chairs).
Free Spirit Meditation with Marlaina Donato Saturday, Sept. 23 – 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Join Marlaina for an hour and a half of blissful ways to set yourself free including easy creative movement/dance, meditation to the calming yet invigorating sounds of live ocean drum, and inspiring prompts. Bring a chair, pillow, or blanket and wear comfortable clothing. Event fee is $10 for members and $15 for non-members.
Honoring Our Ancestors Circle with Marlaina Donato Saturday, Oct. 14, 12 p.m.-1 p.m. Join Marlaina for a beautiful and powerful circle honoring loved ones who have passed on. Bring photos and/or small items of the person you would like to celebrate and soak up the beauty of autumn leading into what the ancients called ‘the dark time’ of fewer daylight hours before the December solstice. Event fee $10 for members, $15 for non-members.
Where Is Mrs. Hen? Saturday, Oct. 14, 3 -4:30 p.m. Join us to learn about different types of owls! During this program we will investigate the mystery of HOO is responsible for the disappearance of Mrs. Hen and will need YOUR help to solve this crime – was it one of the owls or an entirely different species? Put your investigation skills to the test! *wear proper footwear for walking along trails at the Reserve. Space is limited and prior registration is required. Creepy Crawly Trick-or-Treat Walk Saturday, Oct. 28 – 12 -3 p.m. Stop between 12 - 3 p.m. to kickoff your trick-or-treating weekend. Walk our short wildflower trail and learn a little bit about the creepy crawly animals in our woods, from snakes to bats to insects. We want to see your costumes and will have candy to grab as you walk by!
