Catskill Watershed Corporation (CWC) Board of Directors approved funding for several projects under the Septic Repair and Replacement Program
Nov. 7.
The CWC board approved funding to 17 homeowners in 12 towns in Delaware, Greene, and Ulster counties who were awarded reimbursement grants for septic repairs or replacements to provide functioning septic systems throughout the Watershed. Some of these replacements consisted of reimbursement due to additional work corroborated by the homeowner’s engineer, material price increases, or second time repair for systems that were replaced more than twenty years ago under a previous CWC grant to the property owner. Construction will be completed by contractors of the homeowner’s choosing. Homeowners experiencing septic issues are encouraged to contact CWC directly.
The board also approved property purchase reimbursement of $178,600.00 for the Hunter Fire Department in the Greene County village of Hunter. The Hunter Fire Department is a critical facility that was identified for relocation in the Local Flood Analysis in 2018. During previous storm events, the department has been known to get over four feet of water inside the facility. The CWC grant will pay for the purchase of real property and associated survey costs to relocate out of the floodplain within the village of Hunter. Property owners and municipal leaders in hamlets and villages within the West of Hudson Watershed are encouraged to contact CWC for information regarding grants for projects to mitigate future flood damage.
The CWC is a locally based and locally staffed non-profit Local Development Corporation responsible for several environmental protection, economic development, and education programs in the New York City Watershed West of the Hudson River. www.cwconline.org
