David Warren “Dave” Mooney, 73, of Glasgow, Kentucky, died Saturday, Sept. 26, 2026. Born in Englewood, New Jersey Sept. 25, 1953 to the late Blanche Mooney, he grew up in Closter, New Jersey.

Dave was quiet, dependable, and generous with his time and abilities. His care for family and friends was often expressed through practical help, drawing on his knowledge of automotive repair, electrical work, plumbing, and woodworking. His children remember him as someone who could repair almost anything. He worked for more than 25 years as a splicer and lineman for the telephone company.

Community service was an important part of Dave’s life, beginning with his volunteer service as a teenager. He served as a volunteer firefighter in Demarest, New Jersey, Goshen, New York; and Treadwell, where he also served as an EMT. He valued both the responsibility of that work and his relationships with fellow first responders.

Dave enjoyed fishing, working on old cars, and building radios and radio equipment. His lifelong interest in radio began in childhood, when he installed antennas and shortwave radios in his mother’s home in Closter. Operating under the call sign N2RCA, he kept a book of contact cards from fellow operators and was proud of his ability to connect with people all over the world.

Dave and his wife Beatrice moved to Kentucky in 2019. There, he became a member of the Mammoth Cave Amateur Radio Club and the Barren River Rod & Gun Club, and attended First Presbyterian Church.

He was predeceased by his mother Blanche and his wife of 47 years, Beatrice Ann (Walker) Mooney. Dave and Beatrice were married Sept. 17, 1977.

He is survived by his son Christopher Mooney and his wife Vivian Verlaan of Burlington, Connecticut, and their children Ava and Kees; his daughter Erin Olsen and her husband Robert of Oneonta and their children Robert II, Jacob and Annaliese; and his son Sean Mooney and his wife Amber of Treadwell, and their sons, Killian, Declan, Wesley and Wyatt.

He is also survived by his beloved dog, Abby.

Arrangements are entrusted to Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home in Glasgow. A memorial service will be held at a later date in New York.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dave’s name to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
