DCHA Tour Explores Graves and Stories of Revolutionary War Veterans

Posted

DELHI — History enthusiasts will have an opportunity to trace the lives of Revolutionary War veterans buried across northern Delaware County during a guided driving tour hosted by the Delaware County Historical Association on Saturday, July 18.

The daylong excursion begins at 10 a.m. at Pioneer Cemetery, adjacent to the Sidney Memorial Public Library, before traveling to several historic burial grounds, including Meredith Square Cemetery and Harpersfield Rural Cemetery.

At each stop, guides will share the stories of Revolutionary War soldiers interred there, offering participants a glimpse into the lives of the men who served during America’s fight for independence and the communities they helped establish after the war.

The tour is expected to conclude around 3 p.m. Participants will travel in their own vehicles and should bring a bagged lunch, water and a folding chair. While most cemetery sites are reasonably accessible, organizers note the tour includes walking over uneven ground and a few moderate inclines. Restroom stops are planned along the route.

The cost is $10 per vehicle. Space is limited, and advance reservations are required by calling 607-746-3849 or emailing dchadelhi@gmail.com

In the event of rain, the tour will be held Sunday, July 19.
