Grandma’s recipe for Valentine Sugar Cookies, 3/4 cup shortening, 1 cup sugar, 2 eggs, 1 tsp vanilla, 2 1/2 cups flour, 1 tsp baking powder, 1 tsp salt. Mix shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla together. Add the flour, baking powder and salt and mix well. Chill dough for at least 1 hour. Roll dough on floured board to 1/8 thickness. Cut with valentine cookie cutter and place on baking sheet. Bake in 350 oven for 8 to 10 minutes or until golden color. Now its time to decorate them with frosting: 2 1/2 Tblsp soft butter, 1 1/2 cups confectioner’s sugar, 1 1/2 tblsp cream, 3/4 tsp vanilla. Blend butter and sugar together. Stir in cream and vanilla until smooth. Add a drop or two of red or pink food coloring. Spread on the Valentine cookies.

My Thoughts of the week: Valentines Day on Feb. 14 - I hope all the ladies will be  presented with a nice card or gift for sweetheart day.

Lynn Kinch’s joke of the week: Two not-so-bright guys went deep into the woods searching for a Christmas tree. After hours in the cold and a few close calls with hungry wolves one man turned to the other and said, “I’m chopping down the next tree I see. I don’t care if it’s decorated or not!”

Senior moments: Since I’ve retired, I’ve become so pretty: Pretty broke, pretty deaf and pretty ugly.

A cute saying: Sometimes you need to unplug your life, wait 60 seconds and then plug it back in.

Helpful Hints: Buy an ice cream scoop - it’s good for more than just ice cream. You can measure meatballs into even portions. Divide cookie dough onto baking sheets. Spoon cupcake batter into muffin cups.
