Pinner wins treasurer seat; Colchester supervisor unseated

DELHI - In a firm victory, Delaware County Treasurer candidate Carli Pinner, a Republican, bested Conservative candidate Ronda Williams of Walton by a margin of 5,470 to 3,103.

Pinner will take over for incumbent Treasurer Beverly Shields, a Republican, who is retiring at year’s end. In an election night victory speech, Pinner said, “Thank you, truly, thank you! From the very beginning, I made it a priority to run a clean, positive campaign. I focused on my experience, my work, and my commitment to serving Delaware County with integrity. I’ve worked hard to make sure voters know who I am and what I do (managing the county’s finances every day with accuracy, accountability, and care) And I promise you this; that’s exactly how I’ll run the Treasurer’s Office: with honesty, professionalism, and the drive to get the job done right. Your support means everything to me. Thank you, thank you, thank you!”

Elsewhere, longtime Colchester Supervisor Art Merrill was ousted by political newcomer Rob Hafele by a vote of 472 to 186. Hafele looks forward to serving in the position, he said.

“To my Colchester voters, I am humbled and deeply honored to accept your trust and confidence in electing me to this important position. I recognize the tremendous responsibility that comes with this position, and I pledge to uphold the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and accountability in all of my actions. Thank you for the opportunity to serve!” Hafele said.

Merill lost the Republican primary to Hafele in June.

In Hancock, incumbent Supervisor Jerry Vernold defeated challenger David Rubera by a margin of 390 to 345. Vernold appeared on the Conservative and an independent line, while Rubera appeared on Republican and independent line.

In Andes the Wayland “Bud” Gladstone and Richard Dale Cole secured the two available council seats with votes of 275 and 224, respectively; defeating Dana Scuderi who netted 178 votes.

In Bovina there was a four-way race for two council seats between Penelope Brackett, John Ciccone, John Salk and Mark Rossley; Mark Rossley and John Ciccone secured the seats with 202 and 144 votes, respectively.

In Delhi, Daniel Gashler and Simon Purdy, both running on the Democratic and independent lines secured town council seats with votes of 467 and 449 respectively. The two defeated challengers David C. Wakin and Marne Champlin.

In Franklin, incumbent Justice Gary Arndt defeated challenger Rinna Hoffman by a vote of 361 to 213.

In Hamden, Cathy L. Roloson will be the new town clerk, beating Sally Alvarez by a vote of 230 to 102.

In Kortright, Harry Craft beat John Drake by a vote of 281 to 46 for highway superintendent.

In Meredith, incumbent Supervisor James Ellis bested challenger Stephanie Munro by a vote of 287 to 262. Kristin Antin and David Briggs secured council seats with 274 and 294 votes, respectively; defeating Charles Ashe and Michael Morgenfruh. Edward Fisher defeated Bradley Hitchcock for highway superintendent with a vote of 275 to 224.

In Roxbury Bonnie Walker defeated Marilyn Hamil for tax collector by a vote of 425 to 185, while Ralph Sprague defeated Austin Sanford for highway superintendent by a vote of 464 to 142.

In Sidney, incumbent Supervisor Eric Wilson, running on a Republican and independent line, defeated Giffen Ott, running as a Democrat and on an independent line, by a vote of 656 to 379. The five-way race for two council seats among William Heath, Franklin Selleck, Richard DeCola, Jesse Wakeman and Andrew Hinkley was won by Franklin Selleck with 538 votes, and Andrew Hinkley with 537 votes. Jennifer Ruling beat Gregory McCann for the town justice seat by a vote of 508 to 493.

In Stamford, Daniel Migliante bested Kenneth Muthig by a vote of 235 to 144 for highway superintendent, while incumbent Supervisor John Kosier held onto his seat besting challenger Douglas McMullen by a vote of 239 to 132.
