Delhi Village Identifies Four Homes With Elevated Lead Levels in Water Testing

DELHI — The village of Delhi has identified four residences where recent drinking water samples exceeded New York’s allowable standard for lead, according to a statement issued by the village.

The New York State Department of Health required the village to test 20 residences among approximately 40 properties identified as having lead service lines.

Of the 20 samples collected, 16 were within state standards, while four exceeded the state’s acceptable level for lead, according to the village.

The village emphasized that the test results apply to the four residences where elevated levels were detected and do not indicate that the villagewide water supply is contaminated.

“The water which is being used by the rest of the Village is entirely safe,” the village said in its statement, adding that residents outside the affected residences do not need to take measures to protect themselves from lead exposure based on these test results.

The testing and public notice were conducted in response to requirements from the state Department of Health, the village said.

The village apologized for concerns that the notice may have caused and said it was following the state’s requirements.

Residents with questions about the testing or results may contact the Delhi Village Office during business hours at 607-746-2258.
