About 60 people of all ages took part in the Delaware Valley Ridge Riders Snowmobile Club’s eighth annual “Raffle on the River,” a canoe and kayak trip down the East Branch of the Delaware River, Sunday, Aug. 2. In addition to enjoying a day on the water, participants were encouraged to collect trash along the riverbanks. Young kayakers Tyler Bennett, Hunter Odell and Parker Odell were cash prize winners for collecting the most debris, with help from Sawyer and Scarlett Jenkusky and Mollie Bennett. The cleanup filled multiple garbage bags and included tarps, an old push mower, metal debris left by floods, and numerous cans and bottles. Adults were entered into a drawing for a grand prize of gift certificates to local restaurants donated by the club. The trip concluded at Harmonie Farm with a barbecue and campfire. The event was organized to bring community members together outdoors while encouraging stewardship of the river.
