Dr. Richard E. Scranton, fondly known as “Doc” by his friends, passed away May 16, 2026, in Brooksville, Florida, at the age of 89. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Laura, and two sons Richard and Timothy.
Husband, father, veterinarian, professor, author, woodsman, outdoorsman, maple syrup maker, beekeeper, gardener, hunter, fisherman, traveler; he was a man of many talents and interests. Laura and he spent many hours with their motorcoach friends. They ventured throughout the United States and Canada.
A Cornell graduate from the Veterinary Class of 1962, they went on to build a thriving large and small animal practice in Gouverneur, New York until moving to Delhi in 1977.
His real life experiences made him a beloved professor at the SUNY Delhi Vet Tech program until his retirement in 1998. These experiences also lead him to author the memoir, “The True Story of a Veterinarian.”
All that knew him, loved him. He touched many lives, both two-legged and four.
