EAST MEREDITH — The Meredith Historical Society will present “When East Meredith Was a Bustling Town,” a program led by Gabrielle Pierce, at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, at the former Charlotte Valley Presbyterian Church, now home to the historical society, at 10044 Elk Creek Road.
The program will trace East Meredith’s history from 1870 to the present, including the community’s growth before the arrival of the Ulster and Delaware Railroad in 1900.
As the only railroad station in the Town of Meredith, East Meredith became a busy center for freight and passenger traffic during the first quarter of the 20th century. Pierce will discuss the community’s development before the railroad, its railroad-era activity and its eventual decline.
The program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
