It is with deep sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Ernest “Ernie” Kilpatrick of High Point, North Carolina on Saturday, June 7, 2025.
Ernie was born in Dumont, New Jersey, on March 15, 1944, and resided in Downsville until he moved to High Point, North Carolina in 2022.
He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force and remained an active member of the VFW for many years. He also volunteered with the Downsville Fire Department, where he was awarded the Fireman of the Year in 1995.
Ernie is survived by his loving family, the love of his life, his wife Barbara Kilpatrick; five children: Bryan (Janelle) Thompson, Ryan (Amy) Kilpatrick, Kristin (Rick) Hooker, Russell (Kate) Kilpatrick, and Debbie (Jesse Arno) Kilpatrick; his brother Alan (Marilyn) Kilpatrick; grandchildren Brandon (Kat), Joshua, Grayson, Adrianna, Henry, Hattie, Tucker, Willow, and Hazel; and his great-grandson Brantley, along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Olga Kilpatrick.
Ernie was a quiet man, with a quick wit who loved deeply and enjoyed time spent with friends and family, and the occasional beer. He loved the outdoors and later in life he would sit outside and would never admit to taking naps in the sun. He will be deeply missed.
In keeping with Ernie’s wishes, there will be no memorial services. Cremation will occur at Cumby Family Funeral Services, High Point, North Carolina.
Memorial contributions can be made in Ernie’s name to the Downsville Fire Department, Main Street, Downsville, NY 13755.
