ONEONTA - A new group exhibition opening this month at the Community Arts Network of Oneonta seeks to capture the complexity of contemporary life through the lens of regional artists working across disciplines.
Titled “Dream Dance of Bees • The World We Live In,” the show, curated by Charles Bremer, will debut with a public reception from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 17, at the Wilber Mansion, the organization’s gallery space on Ford Avenue. Admission is free.
The exhibition brings together a dozen artists from New York’s Southern Tier Watershed region, whose work spans painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking and assemblage. Among those featured are Bruce Goddard, Nancy Callahan, Tim Sheesley, Jane Carr, Janet Wentworth Erickson, Allison Hill-Edgar, Edmond Rinnoy-Kan, Ashley Norwood Cooper, Bill Lee, Steff Rocknak and David Wilson.
Bremer said the exhibition’s title draws from the “waggle dance” of honeybees, a method by which bees communicate the location of resources to the hive. The metaphor, he explained, reflects the artists’ shared effort to interpret and convey their observations of the world around them.
The works on view range widely in subject, from intimate portraits and domestic scenes to landscapes and socially engaged pieces, reflecting what organizers describe as a broad survey of both personal and collective experience.
The exhibition will remain on view through May 2, when it will close with an artist talk scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Wilber Mansion. For additional information contact admin@canoneonta.org or visit canoneonta.org
