Each first Saturday from May to October, John Burroughs’ Woodchuck Lodge in Roxbury provides a free program underwritten by Catskill Watershed Corporation.
Wild Saturday on Sept. 2 at 1 p.m. will feature entertainment by Chris Van Kleek.
Van Kleek grew up in Hyde Park and is a lifelong member and now historian at Winnisook Club in Oliverea. Since his teens, Chris has been a guitar player and singer with bands - bluegrass to classic rock ’n roll. He loves to write songs about his profession (psychology) and the Catskill Mountains. He will present “Rip Van Winkle,” “Big Indian, & Oliverea,” and a song inspired by reading John Burroughs’ “Every Walk.”
The Oct. 7 event will feature artist and painter Patrice Lorenz, whose works have been inspired by John Burroughs. Catskill transplant Patrice found her way here 20 years ago. She resolved to spend her first year here as an observer of the landscape, the seasons and the wildlife. She discovered John Burroughs writings and used his work as a guide for “living in the blue urn.”
She recently created a body of work inspired by his observations and her own experiences. The paintings and sculptures she created were exhibited last summer at The Andes Society for History and Culture in a solo exhibit titled “Finding John Burroughs.”
Her presentation at Woodchuck Lodge will include readings from Burroughs’ work and images from the exhibit.
