FLEISCHMANNS — The Arts Inn Collective will present a reading from Finding Mother by Heidi Stonier accompanied by dance by Glenna Yu, at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Arts Inn, 923 Main Street.
The hourlong presentation is part of the nonprofit’s ongoing programming promoting art, education and cultural exchange at the historic Fleischmanns inn.
Finding Mother chronicles one woman’s search for spiritual meaning and self-understanding as she navigates suburban life and the expectations surrounding the American dream. Through reflections on childhood, her parents’ divorce, coming of age in the turbulent 1970s and experimentation with drugs, the narrator examines how her sense of self eroded as she sought to please others, particularly men.
Yu, a movement artist based in Andes, is a co-founder of Pillow Fort Arts Center, an artist residency and community space, and a member of the New York State Dance Force. Through both organizations, she works to support artists and dancers and expand access to dance in upstate New York.
