The Walton Central School Board of Education presented its annual Distinguished Service Award at its annual Scholastic Achievement Dinner Wednesday, Nov. 8.

Board of Education Vice President Tammy Tweedie introduced recipient Barbara Geidel who served as elementary librarian for 20 years. Geidel retired in 2022, but left behind a legacy of computer-savvy researchers and recreational readers in a full service media library center. Her character voices while reading aloud to the students and her cooking lessons and book recommendations for older students will long be remembered by her students.

Following the presentation, many Walton students were honored for academic achievement for the 2022-23 school year. Students were recognized in all departments, including science, English/language, social studies, business, agriculture/technology, health/home and career/physical education, art, and music. Superintendent awards were also presented.
