It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Frederick R. Wright on March 19, 2025, at the age of 79. Fred was born on April 21, 1945, in Franklin Depot, to Harold and Harriet (Gilbert) Wright.

Fred graduated from Walton Central School in 1964. After graduating Fred served his country in the United States Navy.

Fred worked at Bailey’s Wood Factory for 35 years until they closed the building in Walton. He then worked for another 30 years at what is now known as Empire Metal Works, Walton.

In November of 1969, Fred married Priscilla M. McElroy in Oneonta. They were married for 30 years before her passing in March of 2000.

Frederick enjoyed spending time with his loving family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Fred made a point to be at every game that he could attend, every concert or play, every sports award banquet, graduations, every birthday party and every other sort of family gathering he could. His family was his pride and joy!

Fred is survived by his children Michael (Terri) Wright of Walton, and Sheryl (Tyler) Crandall of Walton; his grandchildren Michael (Abby) Wright Jr. of Morris, Jacob (Kiana) Wright of Sidney Center, David (Alex) Wright of Meeker, Oklahoma, Kylie (Matthew) Sinistore of Walton, Zachary Coviello of Walton, Stacia Crandall of Walton, and Carissa Crandall of Bainbridge. Also great-grandchildren Jasper, Leyna and Milo Wright; Xavier, Hudson and Luka Sinistore and Willadean Wright; and his brother Edward Wright of Bainbridge, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

Fred was predeceased by his parents Harold and Harriet Wright, his brothers James Wright and Mitch Wright, his sister Jeanette Markle, and his companion of many years, Yvonne Wright.

Calling hours will be held 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 27 at Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton. A celebration of life will be held April 26 by the family at the Walton Vet’s Club, 10 Park Street, Walton at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Walton Vet’s Club, 10 Park Street, Walton NY 13856, in Fred’s name.
