HAMDEN — Delaware County Public Health will offer free car seat inspections and installation guidance Thursday, Aug. 13, for parents and caregivers.
Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will be available from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Delaware Opportunities Inc., 35430 State Highway.
Technicians will check child safety seats and demonstrate proper installation and use. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to bring their children, the vehicle owner's manual and, if available, the car seat manufacturer's manual. Expectant parents also are welcome.
According to Delaware County Public Health, properly used child safety seats reduce the risk of fatal injury by 71% for infants and 54% for toddlers. Yet studies show that 59% of car seats are not installed correctly.
The program is funded by the New York State Governor's Traffic Safety Committee.
