STAMFORD — Children age 8 to 16 will have an opportunity to explore acting, improvisation and other live-performance skills this fall during a free, eight-week theater workshop at the Headwaters Arts Center.
The workshop, presented by the Roxbury Arts Group and led by local actor and comedian Marisa Caruso, will meet from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sundays, Sept. 20 and 27; Oct. 4, 11, 18 and 25; and Nov. 1 and 8, at the Headwaters Arts Center, 66 Main Street.
Participants will work on voice and movement, theater games, improvisation, script interpretation and acting and writing exercises. The workshop will conclude with short scenes performed for families and peers.
The program is free through a grant from the A. Lindsay and Olive B. O’Connor Foundation. Materials will be provided, but registration is required.
Caruso is an interdisciplinary theater artist whose work has included acting, directing, writing, producing, teaching and arts administration. She has served as managing director of Torn Space Theater in Buffalo since 2016, where she has worked on reimagined classics and large-scale, site-specific productions.
Since moving to the Catskills, Caruso has continued her administrative work with Torn Space while developing original projects and collaborations with regional arts organizations. She has also developed educational and artistic programs intended to connect artists and audiences through live performance.
The Roxbury Arts Group said the workshop is intended to give young people a chance to develop performance skills while building confidence through theater activities.
