HANCOCK - Delaware County Public Health will host a free rabies vaccination clinic for dogs, cats and ferrets on Monday, May 11, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Hancock Town Hall, 661 West Main Street.
The event is part of the county’s ongoing public health effort to prevent rabies, a fatal but vaccine-preventable disease that can affect both animals and humans. Officials note that vaccination is required by law for all dogs and cats.
Pre-registration is encouraged. Pets may receive their first rabies vaccine at 3 months of age. Owners are asked to bring prior vaccination records to determine eligibility for three-year certificates.
Dogs must be kept on a leash and under control at all times. Cats and ferrets must be transported in secure carriers. Officials also reminded pet owners that they are responsible for cleaning up after their animals at the site, a requirement under local law that may carry fines if ignored.
Veterinary services will be available only during the scheduled clinic hours.
