DOWNVILLE — With markers, paint, and patriotic spirit, 60 students at Downsville Central School turned art into honor during the annual Poppy Poster Contest, sponsored by the James S. Moore Auxiliary Unit 167.
Held to recognize and remember the sacrifices of America’s veterans, the contest drew students from grades 2 through 12. Winning entries not only stood out locally, but four student artists advanced to the New York state-level competition after earning top honors in Delaware County.
This year’s class winners include:
Class I:
1st – Emma Erwin (3rd grade)
2nd – Georgia Conklin (2nd grade)
3rd – Kayleigh Shaw (3rd grade)
Class II:
1st – Lydia Fletcher (4th grade)
2nd – Mia Odell (4th grade)
Class III:
1st – Allison Kirby (7th grade)
2nd – Paige Hodges (7th grade)
3rd – Alex Pasqua (7th grade)
Class V:
1st – Hailey Emerich (11th grade)
Winners Emma, Lydia, Allison, and Hailey are now being considered at the state level, marking a proud moment for their school and community.
