DELHI — A series of community events this spring at Bushel Collective will invite residents to trade goods, share seeds, view new artwork and join a discussion on global politics and social justice.
Throughout March, the space will host a “Free Store,” a community exchange where visitors may take items at no cost and if they wish, leave usable goods for others. The initiative is intended to circulate everyday items that might otherwise remain unused.
Organizers encourage participants to bring small to medium sized objects in good working condition — the sorts of items that “hang around because you can’t figure out what to do with it,” but might still be useful to someone else.
The Free Store will be open during scheduled events and regular open hours between March 1 and March 21.
Seeds and growing knowledge
Gardeners and aspiring growers will gather Saturday, March 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a Community Seed Swap. Participants are invited to bring viable, non-GMO seeds to exchange with others preparing for the coming growing season.
Packets and labeling materials will be provided, allowing attendees to organize leftover seeds from previous years, repackage them and plan upcoming plantings.
Beyond the exchange itself, organizers say the event is intended to connect growers and encourage the sharing of gardening knowledge and experience.
Alumni art exhibition
Later in the month, the collective will open a new alumni art exhibition titled Speculative Spaces, featuring work by Zachary Cummings and Andrew Foster.
The opening reception is scheduled for Saturday, March 28 from 4 to 7 p.m., offering visitors an opportunity to view the exhibition and meet the artists.
Online discussion
On April 2, the group Get Woke Catskills will host an online discussion from 6 to 7:30 p.m. focused on the two-part Upstream podcast conversation with Manolo De Los Santos about Cuba.
The monthly forum invites participants to examine issues of social justice, race, history and systems of power through shared listening and discussion.
All events are organized through Bushel Collective, 106 Main Street in Delhi. Organizers say the programs are intended to encourage community exchange — whether through objects, ideas, seeds or art.
