WAVERLY - Bainbridge-Guilford/Sidney/Unatego, Walton/Delaware Academy and Deposit-Hancock were among the 24 teams competing in the Feb. 15 2024-25 Section IV Girls Wrestling Championship.
6th place - BGH/Sidney/Unatego
Isabella Phelps dominated the 114-pound division, securing first place with a series of decisive victories. She recorded technical falls over Taylor Zufall (SVEC), Indira Ramos (Deposit-Hancock), and Lauren Mahon (Corning), while also pinning Dallas Bohling (SVEC) in just 50 seconds.
Dylan Casey (107) finished fourth, earning wins over Alea Hartford (Elmira) and Maggie Braman (Oxford-Greene) by pin before falling to Kennadie Cochrane (Waverly) and Kyrsten Yadlosky (Windsor).
Hannah Giammateo (94) placed fourth, pinning Brandilyn Beach (Horseheads) in 47 seconds before tough losses to Alexis Collins (Elmira) and Phoebe Bishop (Groton).
London Miller (100) took fourth, picking up pins over Michaela Daly (Owego Free Academy) and Ameera Mahmood (Elmira) but falling to Briley Beckwith (Norwich) and Kaelynn Dickson (Union-Endicott).
Adrianna Tanner (152) finished fifth, with three wins by pin, including a 1:31 victory over Brianna Slater (Norwich), before falling to Lily Karn (Oxford-Greene).
Other Sidney wrestlers, including Lily Bagg (165), Leelah Charles (126), and Isabella Quinones (107).
11th place - Deposit-Hancock
Nora Bartholomew delivered a commanding performance, securing first place in the 132-pound weight class. She won all three of her matches by pinfall, taking down Tioga’s Kali Bailey (1:24), Oneonta’s Kinnley Wightman (1:30), and Odessa-Montour’s Jackie Mace (2:19) to claim the top spot.
Sophie Baundendistel (138) battled through a tough bracket, earning wins over Tioga’s Cora Szymanski (pin, 2:35) and Horseheads’ Jenna Hayes (pin, 2:33), ultimately finishing in sixth place. Indira Ramos (114) picked up two wins, pinning Horseheads’ Harley Ackerman (:48) and Waverly’s Abby Sickler (1:09).
At 120 pounds, Teehgan Tarbox rebounded from an early loss to pin Chenango Forks’ Dahlia Brandow-Gordon (:38) and Elmira’s Callie Comfort (1:10), showing resilience in her matches.
Brielle Wright (145) added two wins for the Eagles, including a forfeit victory against Waverly and a pin over Oxford-Greene’s Kelsey Loiselle (2:07). She placed fourth after falling to Horseheads’ Morgan Evans (:35) and Tioga’s Amelia Toomey (:16).
16th place - Walton/Delaware Academy
Cadence Guy dominated the 100-pound bracket, winning all three of her matches to secure first place. She opened with a technical fall (10-0) over Union-Endicott’s Kaelynn Dickson, followed by a lightning-fast pin against Owego Free Academy’s Michaela Daly in just 58 seconds. She sealed her championship run with a 12-2 technical fall victory over Norwich’s Briley Beckwith.
Penelope Gielskie had an impressive start in the 126-pound division, securing a 13-2 technical fall win over Ithaca’s Brooke Parker and a first-period pin (1:21) against Owego Free Academy’s Jaelynne Lovell. She faced a tough opponent in Chenango Forks’ Emily Phelps, dropping both of their matchups, including the third-place bout, to finish in fourth place.
