SIDNEY - The Sidney Memorial Public Library has a busy October planned, with a community donation drive, two history presentations, a fall book sale and a movie screening.
Throughout October, the library is collecting cleaning supplies, cat and dog food, and toys for the Delaware Valley Humane Society as part of The Great Give Back, an annual initiative involving libraries across New York state.
Community members can drop off donations at the library during regular business hours to help support the animals cared for by the humane society.
History programs explore the Erie Canal and the Revolutionary War
The library will host two history programs in the Smart Community Room.
At 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, Derrick Pratt, deputy director of the Erie Canal Museum, will present “Revolutionary Waterway: The Erie Canal and the American Revolution.”
Although the Erie Canal opened 50 years after the American Revolution, the presentation will examine how the Revolution shaped the people, places and ideas behind the influential waterway.
At 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, Terry McMaster will present “Rev. William Johnston and His Gang of Villains: A Loyalist Perspective,” exploring the Revolutionary War through the perspective of a Loyalist.
Friends of the Libraries plan fall book sale
