HOBART - An accomplished organist from Galveston, Texas, will give a recital at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9 at the Hobart Presbyterian Church. The program will include works by J.S. Bach, plus arrangements of some early American hymns and Reformation pieces for organ.
Mary Jean Sargent has been playing piano for 27 years and organ for 17 years. She studied organ privately for over 13 years, and has taken two organist exams with the American Guild of Organists. She holds the collegiate and associate certifications with the AGO, which are the equivalent of a bachelor’s and a master’s degree, respectively. (When she took the collegiate exam, her test scores were ranked the highest in the nation for the year.) She is currently organist at St. John Lutheran Church in Galveston, Texas, where she has served for over 10 years.
The concert is free to attend, though donations of non-perishable food items to support area food banks are appreciated. The Hobart Presbyterian Church is located on Maple Avenue in Hobart. Regular Sunday services take place at 9:45 a.m. (Ms. Sargent will be guest organist for the Oct. 11 service). An elevator is available.
