STAMFORD — With disasters, preparation is often the difference between chaos and calm. On July 12, the Western Catskills Community Revitalization Council (WCCRC), in partnership with the Stamford Library, will host a disaster preparedness workshop designed to equip area residents with the knowledge and tools to respond confidently when crises arise.
The event, funded by a 2025 AARP Community Challenge grant, is among 383 initiatives supported by AARP’s Livable Communities program this year. It will feature a presentation by Eileen Knott, a HUD-certified counselor, covering emergency planning basics for individuals, families, and small businesses.
Topics include identifying local risks, crafting emergency plans, and navigating federal aid programs like FEMA. Attendees will leave not only with information—but also with gear: each participant will receive a preparedness bag stocked with emergency supplies worth $35. A weather radio will be raffled off during the session.
