John Lamport

John “Johnny” Samuel Lamport, 52, of Hobart, died at home on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2025, following a long illness.

Johnny was a lifelong resident of Hobart and a graduate of South Kortright Central School.

He was a board member of the Watershed Agricultural Council and a premier dairy farmer, earning accolades for his farm management.

In high school, he excelled in all athletic pursuits including basketball and baseball. His physical excellence transferred to his work in operating a 1,000-acre dairy farm and a herd of award-winning Holstein cows with his father, Frank F. Lamport Jr.

The farm has survived through multiple generations and Johnny was the last in the line. Dairy operations ceased in 2019 and the Lamports switched operations to hemp farming as a cash crop.

Johnny was an avid hunter, outdoorsman and golfer. He also enjoyed casino gambling, sports memorabilia, local and family history. He will be remembered as a charming, loving, fiercely competitive, stoic and affectionate man who loved a practical joke, tickle-torturing his children and watching them play sports, wrestling on the couch with his little girl and stealing all of her chocolates. One of his fondest recent memories was parasailing in Bermuda on a family vacation.

He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Rose Lamport (Cunningham) and his three children, Tyler, Austin and Scout. He is further survived by his mother, Mary Pandolfino of St. Petersburg, Florida, a sister, Rebecca Lamport and husband Jeff Carlson, of Mechanicville, a chosen brother, Jim Quarino and wife Kelley Quarino of Hobart, and their three children. He is also survived by his stepmother, Jacqueline Lamport of Hobart and supportive in-laws Neil and Betsy Cunningham of Jefferson, his pets Sunshine, Murphy and Lynx, as well as his many uncles, aunts, cousins and their children.

Tyler, Austin and Scout find solace in believing that he is up in heaven without pain, at peace, happy, playing golf with his father and grandparents, hunting once again, shooting baskets, roaming the farm and looking over the loves of his life - his wife and kids. According to his children, he battled one obstacle after another and always came out the other side. They look up to him as the “toughest man” they will ever know.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14, at the MacArthur Funeral Home, 15 Buntline Drive, Stamford. Friends are invited to celebrate his life at John’s Tavern in Stamford after calling hours, per his request.

A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Heart of the Catskills Humane Society, PO Box 88, Delhi, NY 13753.
